The History of Hotel Telegrafo

The Hotel Telegrafo was opened up for first time in 1860 in Amistad Street. In 1888 the same one was moved to the same place where it’s currently placed, in the center of the city, Prado and Neptuno Streets.

Seven years after this construction was founded, the marriage formed by Don Guillermo del Toro and Doña Pilar Somoano, grateful merchandisers from Havana, transformed to the Hotel Telegrafo into better one of the eleven of Latin America, with novel services and excellent reputation.

The Hotel Telegrafo also has its role in the politics of the island to the beginnings of the XX century, when serving as general barracks of Liberal Party and center of the Election Campaign of the first decade of that century.

90 years ago it experienced a first reconstruction that transformed it into the hotel of more modern of the city, preferred by political personalities and businessmen of everywhere.

Toward 1911, the telephones located in their rooms and in the tables of the restaurant, real privilege for that time, contributed a unique touch in the environment of the numerous facilities of the Cuban hotel industry.

Subject for three year to capital reparation, the Hotel Telegrafo opened its doors in the 2001, completely rejuvenated and with an offer that includes 63 rooms -of them 9 junior suites-, besides a snack bar.

Welcome to my site dedicated to the Hotel Telegrafo in Old Havana,, Cuba. I am "poco a poco" researching and updating it with the aim to provide as complete as possible record of the hotel's ancient and recent history; bearing in mind that the goings-on today may one day be of historical interest.

My site is NOT the official website of the current hotel operator, and is by no means endorsed by them; but I am grateful for their help with the research.

You can make from this site room reservations through the Bizloco eTravel System operated by, Cubaism Ltd.

Best wishes for 2017
